Overview
An Inventory Segment is a named, saved set of inventory filters. Rather than rebuilding the same filter combination every time you want to work with a particular group of vehicles, you save those filters once, give the segment a name, and reuse it.
Each segment stays current with your inventory. Because a segment stores filter criteria rather than a fixed list of vehicles, the VINs it contains update as vehicles arrive and sell. The VIN count shown beneath each segment name always reflects the vehicles matching that segment right now.
The Inventory Segments page is where all of your saved segments live. From here you can review your segments, see when each was last updated and by whom, and activate a segment into VINs Acceleration.
Where to Find It
Navigate to Dashboard > Audiences > Inventory Segments.
Select Audiences in the top navigation bar. The left sidebar is divided into two groups: Audiences and Inventory. Inventory Segments sits in the Inventory group, directly above Inventory Analysis.

Who Has Access
Viewing this page requires CDP Pro. Individual actions within the page carry their own permission requirements:
| Action | Who Can Perform It |
|---|---|
| View the page and its segments | Any user on an account with CDP Pro. |
| Create and star segments | Any user on an account with CDP Pro. |
| Activate a segment | Users with an Admin or Edit role at the product level for the product they intend to activate the segment in. |
| Share, download, or delete a segment | Admin users only. |
Users without admin permissions will not see the share, download, and delete actions when hovering over a segment row. If the Activate dropdown is unavailable, check the user's role at the product level for the product they are trying to activate the segment in.
How Inventory Segments Are Created
There are two entry points for creating a segment:
From the Inventory Segments page
Select New Segment in the top right of the page to define and save a new segment.
From Inventory Analysis
Filter your inventory on the Inventory Analysis page, then save that filter combination as a segment. This is often the more natural path — you explore your inventory first, find a group worth acting on, and save it.
Segments are built from the same inventory filters available in Inventory Analysis. Common examples include vehicle condition, model year range, and electrification level, which can be combined — for instance, new electric vehicles from model years 2023 through 2026.
Page Layout
Saved segments are organized into two sections, each with a count in its header:
Starred Inventory Segments
Segments you have starred, pinned to the top of the page for quick access. A filled star appears to the left of the segment name.
Other Inventory Segments
All remaining saved segments. An outlined star appears to the left of each segment name.
Two controls sit outside the tables:
-
New Segment — in the top right of the page. Starts the segment creation flow.
-
Search Segments — in the header of the Other Inventory Segments section. Use it to find a specific segment by name.
Understanding the Segment Table
Both sections use the same five columns:
| Column | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Segment | The segment name, with the number of VINs currently matching the segment listed beneath it. The star toggle sits to the left of the name. |
| Activation | A badge for the product the segment is currently activated in, such as VINs Acceleration. This column is empty for segments that have been saved but not yet activated. |
| Last Updated | The date the segment was last modified. |
| Updated By | An avatar showing the initials of the user who last modified the segment. Hover over the avatar to see the full name. |
| Actions | The Activate dropdown, plus the share, download, and delete actions that appear on hover for admin users. |
Activating a Segment
Saving a segment defines the group of vehicles. Activating it is what puts that group to work.
Select the Activate dropdown at the end of a segment's row to activate it in VINs Acceleration, where the segment defines the specific set of vehicles a custom campaign promotes. The segment's filter criteria carry through into the activation, so the campaign targets exactly the vehicles the segment describes.
Once a segment has been activated, the corresponding product badge appears in that row's Activation column, giving you an at-a-glance view of which of your segments are in active use.
Additional Row Actions
Hover over any segment row to reveal three additional actions to the right of the Activate dropdown. These are available to admin users only.
| Action | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Share | Shares the segment's URL, so another user on the account can open the same segment directly. |
| Download | Downloads the list of vehicles currently in the segment. |
| Delete | Removes the segment from the page. |
Before You Have Any Segments
On a new account with no saved segments, the Inventory Segments page shows the same two section headings with empty tables, alongside a prompt to create your first inventory segment and a link explaining how segments work. The New Segment button is available from the start.
Other Important Notes
- CDP Pro is required both to view this page and to build audiences and segments generally.
- Share, download, and delete are admin-only, and are only visible on row hover — they are not displayed by default.
- A segment stores filter criteria, not a fixed list of vehicles. Its VIN count will change as your inventory changes.
- Downloading a segment captures the vehicles in it at that moment. The file will not stay in sync with the segment
