Overview
Email Campaign Preferences lets shoppers opt out of specific types of Audience Activation emails instead of unsubscribing from everything. A shopper who is done with sales offers can stop them and still receive service reminders, so your dealership keeps the relationship.
Once enabled, shoppers can manage their own email preferences from the unsubscribe link in your emails, and your team can temporarily pause specific campaign types for a shopper from their CDP profile. Global email unsubscribes are always honored and are not affected by this feature.

Enabling Email Campaign Preferences:
- Approve the legal acknowledgment
- Review and approve a suppression tag for every custom campaign
- Turn on the feature
Step 1 — Approve the Legal Acknowledgment
Before any campaigns can be reviewed, a dealership user must read and approve the acknowledgment at the top of the page by clicking I approve. Once approved, the button changes to Approved with a check mark.
The acknowledgment reads:
By clicking "I approve", you acknowledge and confirm that you are solely responsible and liable for assigning an accurate email suppression tag to each campaign, including any currently active custom campaigns, and any related consequences. Fullpath may suggest a tag automatically, but these suggestions are only provided for convenience and you remain solely responsible for reviewing and correcting them before each campaign launches. You understand that when a customer opts out of a category (associated with a specific tag), that opt-out must be honored within the required timeframe and Fullpath will suppress all campaigns carrying that category's tag. A tag that does not accurately describe a campaign's content may result in a customer continuing to receive messages for a category they have opted out of. Global email unsubscribe requests are honored independently and are not affected by tag selection.
Step 2 — Review Custom Campaigns
The Review Custom Campaigns section lists your custom campaigns so you can review and assign a suppression tag to each one before enabling the feature.
What's included:
- Every custom campaign, in any status, except campaigns marked Completed (one-time sends that have already gone out and do not recur).
- System campaigns are not listed. They are tagged automatically.
Columns:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Campaign Name | The custom campaign's name |
| Campaign Description | The description entered when the campaign was created |
| Campaign Category | Sales or Service, based on the campaign's goal |
| Suggested Suppression Tag | A tag suggested by Fullpath for this campaign, shown in a dropdown you can change, with an I approve button |
For each campaign:
- Review the suggested suppression tag against the campaign's name, description, and content.
- If the suggestion doesn't fit, choose a different tag from the dropdown. The options are filtered to the campaign's category. For example, a Sales campaign might be tagged Renewal, Price Drop, or Upcoming Model, and a Service campaign might be tagged General Update - Service or Ownership Update.
- Click I approve. The button changes to Approved with a check mark.
Step 3 — Turn On the Feature
The Email Campaign Preferences toggle stays off and greyed out until the acknowledgment and every campaign in the list are approved. Once everything is approved, turn the toggle on. When the feature is on:
- The toggle appears on and blue.
- The acknowledgment and each campaign row show Approved with a check mark.
What Changes Once the Feature Is On
Shopper Preferences Page
- The unsubscribe link in the email footer opens a preferences page.
- The shopper can stop the type of email they clicked (for example, New Inventory), all Sales emails, or all Service emails, then save.
-
Unsubscribe from all emails is always one click away and is always honored.
- Opting out of one category keeps the shopper reachable on the other.
Campaign Type Breakdown in CDP
In the shopper's Communication Preferences dialog, your team can see each Sales and Service campaign type with its own toggle, and temporarily pause a campaign type for 2 weeks or 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. Opt-outs the shopper set themselves are greyed out and always honored. Learn more about Communication Preferences here.
Custom Campaign Wizard
Campaign Suppression Tag becomes a required field in the Campaign Setup step, under the Sales/Service goal. Duplicated campaigns keep their tag. Learn more about creating custom campaigns here.
Turning the Feature Off
To turn off Email Campaign Preferences, switch the toggle off. It returns to grey. If the feature is turned off:
- Shopper preferences that were already saved are still honored.
- New custom campaigns still require a suppression tag.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why can't I turn on the feature?
The toggle stays greyed out until the legal acknowledgment and every campaign in the Review Custom Campaigns list are approved. Look for any row that still shows an I approve button.
Q: Who can enable Email Campaign Preferences?
Dashboard users with Admin or Edit access to Audience Activation.
Q: Which campaigns do I need to review?
All custom campaigns in any status, except Completed campaigns (one-time sends that have already gone out). System campaigns are tagged automatically and don't need review.
Q: Do I have to use the suggested tag?
No. The suggestion is provided for convenience. Choose a different tag from the dropdown if it better matches the campaign's content. The options are filtered to the campaign's Sales or Service category.
Q: Does this change how global unsubscribes work?
No. Global email unsubscribe requests are honored independently and are not affected by tag selection.
Q: What happens if we turn the feature off?
Shopper preferences that were already saved are still honored, and new custom campaigns still require a suppression tag.
Q: Does this affect SMS?
